CAMTEL engages with Bafoussam City council for SMART CITY project

The General Manager of Cameroon Telecommunications otherwise known as CAMTEL has signed a partnership with the Bafoussam city council in the West Region of Cameroon to established the first smart city in Cameroon.
This took place at the Bafoussam city council on Thursday, 22 April 2021 in the presence of officials of the council, some administrators and staff of CAMTEL as well as other representatives of regional administrators.
Talking during the ceremony, the General Manager of CAMTEL, Judith Yah said signing the framework agreement to create a smart city in Bafoussam is the first in Cameroon.
Judith Yah who is the CAMTEL G.M lauded the initiative that has been put to light by the mayor of the Bafoussam city council to put in place a smart city in town.
“Weare committed to seeing that this commendable initiative you have taken will succeed; makingyou a reference, thus encouraging your fellow municipal administrators from near and wide to come and learn from Bafoussam how to build a smart city” said the CAMTEL G.M at the signing ceremony.
She however thanked mayor Roger Tafam of the Bafoussam city council for choosing CAMTEL as an incumbent national operator in the field of electronic communications as partner in the process.
The project is expected to boost delivery of many services using the resources provided by internet connectivity in town. The CAN 2022 coming to Cameroon and Bafoussam being one of the sites for hosting the games in Cameroon will make the Bafoussam Smart City project a great factor to spice CAN 2022 in Cameroon.
The Mayor of the Bafoussam City Council, Roger Tafam for his part, extended welcome words to Judith Yah and her CAMTEL delegation who travelled from Yaounde to sign a partnership of this magnitude.
The Mayor said among other motivations for this project, offering his people a living environment conducive to their development is one of the objectives of building a smart city in town.
“In fact, in addition to improving the quality of the services of Bafoussam’s Urban Community, the various tools that will emerge from this initiative will undoubtedly impact urban governance, especially youth employment, tourism, culture, education and other important sectors of our daily life” said the Mayor of Bafoussam city council.
This partnership is expected to create better internet services that will accommodate other digital services that will ease the functioning of activities in Bafoussam as well as enable people to have quick access to services without mobility.
